Data Warehouse
Centralised data warehouse for analytics
Definition
A centralised database optimised for analytics and reporting. It combines data from multiple source systems, normalises it to a single schema and makes it available to BI tools. Cloud solutions: Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Databricks SQL.
Business application
A company with 15 operational systems doesn't build reports directly from the ERP, CRM and WMS — it loads data into a Data Warehouse and reports from there. This enables reports combining data from multiple systems without placing load on the operational systems.
