Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Robotic Process Automation

Automation that interacts with software interfaces

Robotic process automation uses software bots to carry out repeatable actions such as entering data, moving information between applications and producing reports. It often works through user interfaces, which can help where suitable APIs are unavailable. Interface changes can affect reliability.

What it means for a business

A stable, rule-based workflow with repetitive screen actions may be suitable for RPA. A team should assess exceptions, credentials, interface changes and ongoing maintenance before choosing it over an API integration or a change to the underlying process.
