Kaizen

Continuous improvement through small, repeated changes

Kaizen is an approach to continuous improvement that involves people in identifying and testing changes to their everyday work. Improvements are reviewed and incorporated into standard practice where useful. It emphasises learning and participation rather than relying only on large change programmes.

What it means for a business

A team can record recurring difficulties, test a small change and compare the result with the previous process. Managers need to make time for improvement and respond to staff observations so that useful changes become part of normal work.
