GraphQL
A query language and execution model for APIs
What it means
GraphQL lets clients request selected fields from a typed API schema. The server resolves the requested data and returns a response matching the query. This can reduce unnecessary data transfer, while requiring controls for query complexity, authorisation and backend performance.
What it means for a business
A mobile app can request the data needed for each screen without relying on a separate endpoint for every view. GraphQL may suit this access pattern, but teams should compare its operational complexity with a REST API for the same requirements.
