ETL
Extract, Transform, Load
Extract data, transform it, then load it
What it means
ETL is a data processing pattern in which data is extracted from source systems, cleaned or transformed in a processing layer and then loaded into a target system. It can prepare a consistent dataset before the data enters a warehouse or another application.
What it means for a business
A reporting workflow can extract customer and order records, standardise identifiers, remove invalid entries and load the prepared data into a warehouse. Validation and failure handling help prevent incomplete or inconsistent reports.
