Middleware
Software that connects applications and services
What it means
Middleware provides communication or shared services between software components. It can route messages, translate data formats, manage transactions or expose interfaces. It helps systems work together without requiring every component to implement each connection separately.
What it means for a business
A business can use middleware to translate records and coordinate exchanges between existing systems. The design needs clear ownership, error handling and monitoring so that a failure in one connection does not silently disrupt the wider process.
